Product Description
High Impact Polystyrene (HIPS) for durable applications, an impact-modified polystyrene that combines the processability and economics of polystyrene with significantly improved toughness for demanding applications. This rubber-modified material features polybutadiene rubber particles dispersed throughout the polystyrene matrix, absorbing impact energy and preventing the brittle failure characteristic of general purpose grades. West African manufacturers rely on HIPS for producing refrigerator liners, appliance housings, electronic enclosures, packaging, and other products requiring good impact resistance at economical cost. The material processes easily on standard injection molding and thermoforming equipment, enabling efficient production of large, complex parts with good surface finish. While sacrificing the transparency of GPPS, HIPS provides the mechanical robustness necessary for products subject to impacts, drops, and rough handling during manufacture, shipping, and consumer use. Available in various impact grades and colors including white grades for appliance applications, HIPS addresses the performance gap between brittle GPPS and more expensive engineering thermoplastics.
